Research summary
This qualitative study aims to explore the perspectives of parents who have recently had a pregnancy affected by Gestational Diabetes. It has a particular focus on understanding the challenges around healthy behaviour change during the postpartum period. This information will guide the development of future interventions aimed at supporting families in adopting healthy behaviours.
Semi-structured online interviews will be conducted with up to 10-15 pairs of parents of infants aged 3-24 months. Purposive sampling will identify participants representative of a range of demographic characteristics and a mixture of participants who did and did not participate in the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. Recruitment will be conducted in liaison with healthcare providers, including diabetologists and via the Born and Bred in (BaBi) Network. Professionals will be asked to pass on the study advert to parents.
Consent and demographic information will be collected by an online form via REDCap. Interviews with parents will be conducted on Microsoft Teams or by telephone.
Reflexive thematic analysis will be employed to identify patterns of meaning across the dataset relevant to family dynamics associated with risk reduction engagement.REC name
