  • Research summary

This is an interventional study to be undertaken at the South West Wales Cancer Centre.

There will be three separate videos to enable patients with either Prostate, Head and Neck or left breast cancer to understand what will be involved in their treatment planning and scan requirements. Examples within the videos are of a breathing technique, appropriate diet and the making of a brace to help the patient to keep still, each depending on the site of their cancer.

It is planned to enter 120 patients.

    Aims and Objectives:

    1. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of delivering film content to radiotherapy patients with regard to the process in relation to their own particular cancer site.
    2. To improve participant experience and reduce anxiety levels by providing a viewing of the patient led films in preparation for their scan experience, hence aiding them to stay as still as possible with a good understanding of the reason this is beneficial to them and also in allowing the Radiographer to obtain best treatment access.
    3. To reduce the time taken to scan participants as the patient will have prior knowledge of what is required and in some cases allows the practice of specific breathing methods, position and so forth.
    4. To reduce the number of repeat scans required so that the patient does not have to return for further scans prior to commencing their actual Radiotherapy treatment.
    5. To reduce the total delay to the treatment pathway which will allow the patient to complete their treatment journey sooner.

All patients must be fully informed and hence give consent to participate.
