    Post partum family planning can prevent maternal and child mortalities. family planning can prevent more than one-third of maternal deaths. In addition it is well known that closely spaced pregnancies within the 1st year postpartum increases the risk of preterm birth, low birthweight and small-for-gestational babies.Childbirth presents an excellent opportunity for providing contraception at a time women have regular contact with healthcare providers with the skills to offer a range of methods. It is the ideal time to motivate women to start using a method of contraception that enables them to provide undivided care for their new baby in the first year.

    Initial Aims Of Study

    • Explore the views and training needs of midwives & doctors on the provision of post natal contraception, including the possible expansion of their role to include Long acting reversible contraception (LARC) and sign-posting women to the appropriate contraceptive services.

    • Survey the views & preferences of women in antenatal and post natal wards on access to contraception. Specifically looking at their views on a fast track appointment system for postnatal women to access appointments at dedicated post natal contraception clinics or priority clinics.
