  • Research summary

Developing and piloting an easy read version of a questionnaire developed to measure the impact on vision-related quality of life for stroke survivors with post-stroke visual problems.
    WHY?
Nearly three-quarters of stroke survivors have a visual problem. Visual problems can affect many everyday activities and result in loss of independence. It is important to measure the impact of stroke-related vision problems on stroke survivor’s quality of life. However, stroke survivors may have other problems that may make reading difficult, such as communication difficulties and cognitive problems.
    WHAT?
The aim of this study is to develop and pilot an easy-read version of a questionnaire for measuring the impact on quality of life caused by stroke-related vision problems, to allow stroke survivors who find it difficult to read to be able to use it.
    HOW?
The standard and easy-read versions of the questionnaire involved stroke survivors and clinicians at every stage of development. This study will ask stroke survivors to fill in the questionnaire both versions of the questionnaire with a short break in between. The researcher will make observational notes as the stroke survivors completes each questionnaire, noting any pauses and length of time spent on each question. The stroke survivor will then be interviewed to ask questions about their experience of completing the questionnaire.
