Research summary
Glioblastoma multiforme (glioblastoma) tumours are the most common type of malignant tumours arising in the brain and present a significant challenge to quality of life. Associated symptoms, such as tiredness, sleep, pain, seizures and depression have been addressed in previous research, with regards to their effect on quality of life. However, there has been little prior research into associated headaches, which have been shown to effect over half of glioblastoma patients and may well contribute to lower levels in quality of life in these patients.
This research aims to investigate the characteristics of the symptoms, especially headaches, associated with glioblastoma – taking into account factors such as when the headaches started, how painful the headaches are, how often they occur and their overall relationship with the quality of life in glioblastoma patients. The quality of life in glioblastoma patients with headaches will then be compared to glioblastoma patients without headaches. If headaches associated with glioblastoma are found to also be associated with a decreased quality of life, then this research may be used as a basis by which future research can build on, regarding improving future interventions to control these headaches, with the overall aim of improving quality of life.
