Research summary
Several genes have been associated with directly causing, or increasing the risk for developing, neurodegenerative diseases. We aim to understand the function of these genes, and how they lead to neuronal dysfunction and death. We will do this by investigating a range of existing resources, including cell cultures, animal models, patient-derived cells including induced pluripotent stem cells and post mortem material such as brain tissue. We are mainly focussed on investigating two devastating neurodegenerative diseases, frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. These two diseases can be caused by common genes therefore we expect to gain much insight by investigating these genes.
