Research summary
Research Summary:
This project will assess the clinical outcomes of individuals completing rehabilitation for their Achilles tendon rupture at the University Hospitals of Leicester. Patients attending the Achilles tendon rupture clinic or rehabilitation classes will be asked to complete ultrasound imaging, strength testing, questionnaires and accelerometers. This will provide an insight into the rehabilitation outcomes of a broad range of patients at each rehabilitation timepoint.
Lay Summary of Results:
Between the different study groups the tendon changed significantly. With the group measured at 12 months having a third smaller tendon than the group at 10 weeks post rupture. The return of strength improved at each time point but the strength at 12 months was 34% lower than the non-ruptured side.
