  This project will assess the clinical outcomes of individuals completing rehabilitation for their Achilles tendon rupture
  at the University Hospitals of Leicester. Patients attending the Achilles tendon rupture clinic or rehabilitation classes will be asked to complete ultrasound imaging, strength testing and questionnaires. This will provide an insight into the rehabilitation outcomes of a broad range of patients after 1 year since rupturing their achilles tendon

  Lay Summary of Results:

  This study looked at how well people recover in the longer term after rupturing their Achilles tendon, which is the strong tendon at the back of the ankle.

  Sixty people took part in the study. All had ruptured their Achilles tendon at least one year earlier, and on average their injury had happened nearly seven years before the study assessment. Most had been treated without surgery.

  Participants attended one research visit. We used ultrasound to look at the structure of the tendon, measured calf muscle strength and the ability to perform repeated heel raises, and assessed whether the tendon had become longer after injury. Participants also completed questionnaires about their symptoms, general health, and physical activity.
