Research summary
Clinically and academically we know a fair amount about the impact of acquired brain injury (ABI) on relationships. However, in both cases, we have shied away from looking at sex specifically. Given the high incidence of relationship breakdown following ABI, this feels remiss, as do the gaps in our understanding when it comes to the partner's experience, and the emotional (as opposed to physiological) impact. This study aims to redress this, by using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to help gain a rich and deep understanding of if, how, and why sex changes for the partners of ABI survivors.
