Research summary
This work seeks to evaluate the impact of the introduction of a new approach to old age liaison psychiatry service delivery in community hospitals in Bradford. The approach consists of two main parts: a new document supporting a process whereby community hospital staff case find presentations of possible delirium, depression and dementia (the 'Triple Screening Form'); and embedded liaison psychiatry team presence at the ward Multi Disciplinary Meetings. This approach has been introduced on two community hospital wards, while a third ward has continued to receive 'input as usual'. The research consists of a questionnaire to staff on the ward to evaluate their experience of the process, and their confidence and self-assessed competence in managing the common presentations of mental disorder covered by the 'Triple Screening Form'. There will also be in-depth interviews with a sample of staff to evaluate these areas in more detail, and to gain insights as to how the process could be further developed and extended.
