  • Research summary

Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited kidney disease and is characterised by slowly progressive cyst development and growth leading to kidney failure which occurs in 50% by the sixth decade. The decline in kidney function which signifies disease progression is very variable and methods of predicting this include measuring kidney volume on detailed abdominal
imaging (magnetic resonance, MRI). Additional measures on MRI can inform disease prognosis.
The purpose of this study is to measure kidney volume using a gold standard manual method and to develop and optimise a new rapid and accurate semi-automated method of measuring kidney volume to address the compelling clinical demand.
Since this study focuses on disease progression, review of relevant related previous and ongoing clinical data and biochemical blood tests, imaging investigations and medical notes will be performed.
