  • Research summary

This is a multicentre observational study aiming to discover the modifiable factors that cause circadian rhythms (body clocks) to be disrupted in patients with locally advanced or metastasised cancer of the colon, rectum, pancreas, stomach or biliary tract.

The study will use a number of tele-monitoring techniques, saliva samples and self-reported questionnaires to measure each participant’s circadian rhythm alongside symptom burden, activity levels, quality of life, perceived sleep patterns and mental well-being.
Participants will use electronic monitoring equipment at home, complete questionnaires and provide saliva samples alongside the electronic monitoring.

The results will then be analysed to establish any correlates of poor circadian rhythm that may be amenable to improvement via targeted interventions.
