    Study Summary

    Title: ‘How can NICE Intrapartum Guidelines recommendations on place of birth for women with uncomplicated pregnancies be implemented in practice’

    Short title: How can NICE guidelines on place of birth for low-risk women be implemented in practice?

    Objectives:
    1. To develop, as part of a Participatory Action Research process an implementation Pathway, including staff training and tools to support implementation of an evidence-based model of care.
    2. To explore whether the development and implementation of The Pathway can have an impact on the number of births outside OUs and assess the impact on service users and frontline staff.
    3. To improve the knowledge implementation of NIHR and other evidence, policy and NICE guidelines into practice within the NHS.
    4. To contribute to the development of knowledge mobilization (KM) theory and research methodologies
    5. To help developing a culture of active participation of service users and frontline staff in research and planning service delivery.

    Methodology: The methodology is a Participatory Action Research (PAR) project using a modified PARIHS framework (Promoting Action on Research Implementation In Health Services) combined with the COM-B model prospectively to design and implement a pathway and conduct initial impact evaluation.

    Setting: NHS trust

    Participants: 900 participants (service users and staff)
