Research summary
The investigators recently showed that a self collected vaginal swab was as good as a clinician collected sample for detecting HPV in women attending for routine cervical screening. Their data also showed that a self collected vaginal swab might be a better sample for older women and this study is designed to determine the HPV status of women recently removed from the national screening programme due to age.
The intention is to determine the acceptability of self sampling in older women and to offer those who are HPV positive opportunity for further investigation and treatment as required. The findings should help inform planning of services for those women approaching the end of their screening period.REC name
