Research summary
Researching Compassion in healthcare has mainly focused on experiences of people with physical-health problems. There is limited to Research focussing on the experiences of people with mental health disorders.
The reasons for this are unclear. It could be because people with physical illnesses are able to articulate their encounters of compassion, whereas this could prove difficult for individuals with cognitive or psychological disorders. Alternatively, perhaps their opinions are considered unimportant or unreliable.
Recent research literature search shows a dearth of studies concerning Compassion in relation to mental health illness. This proposed study will address this shortfall by using a mixed methods approach to elicit the opinions of mental health (MH) nurses and patients in a range of in-patient wards.REC name
