  • Research summary

In our hospital, we estimate that 10-15% of COVID-19 cases were acquired in hospital, and this seems to be similar elsewhere in the UK. Whether people in hospital catch COVID-19 mainly from other patients, from staff, or from contamination in the environment (or all of these routes) is unknown - but understanding the routes of transmission in hospital is vitally important to help us stop it happening. We plan to use routinely collected, anonymised electronic patient and staff data from our hospital to build mathematical models to understand how SARS-CoV2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is transmitted within the hospital.
