Research summary
Point-of-care tests (POCT) are small portable devices that give rapid test results to allow prompt medical decisions to be made. Examples of the most well known of these include pregnancy tests, urine tests and tests for blood sugar levels in diabetes. These tests are now often being used by patients in their own home for the management of medical conditions or drug monitoring. This study aims to develop a patient questionnaire that will be used to measure the impact new test devices have on the daily lives of patients. It will also provide pilot data to guide the sample calculation for a future validation study. It is important to collect this information as it provides an important argument when decisions are being made about whether or not to introduce new tests.
