Research summary
Summary of Research
Previous research has shown that patients who are overweight and have the heart condition atrial fibrillation (AF) can improve their symptoms and reverse the progression of the condition by losing weight. However, many people find it difficult to lose weight, and patients with AF may face additional barriers due to their heart condition. This study aims to investigate how health care providers can improve the care and support of patients with AF who wish to lose weight. Patients who are under the care of the Cardiac Rhythm Management team at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford will be approached to participate. Those who agree will take part in one face-to-face interview about their experiences of weight management and what sort of support (if any) they would like. The interview will last about an hour. The aim of the study is to use the information and opinions from these interviews to identify ways to improve service provision and the advice we give to patients.
