Research summary
Autism is a disorder that some people grow up with. People with autism can have difficulties with communicating and interacting with other people. High Functioning Autistic Spectrum Disorders (HFA) refers to a sub-group of people with autism of average or above average intelligence.
In this study I will ask my collaborators working within MSUs in England and Wales to meet with patients (without HFA) who consent to participate in this study, to complete 2 questionnaires. This will help us make sure that they do not have ASD.
My collaborators will ask patients with HFA and those without it, if they are willing to meet me to complete two more questionnaires so I can see if they have any other psychiatric disorders. My collaborators will also ask patients for their consent to study their psychiatric records, in order to compare patients with HFA to a similar group of patients without HFA, in terms of their psychiatric histories.
