Research summary
This research involves examination of archived tumour specimens from patients with cancer of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction. We shall investigate the expression pattern and prognostic significance of all members of the EGFR family (EGFR, HER-2, HER-3, HER-4) and the putative stomach cancer stem cell markers (CD44, CD133), and other antigens recognised by our novel antibodies in formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues from around 50 patients using immunohistochemistry. The intensity of staining for the HER family will be recorded as negative, weak, strong and whether it is membranous, cytoplasmic or nuclear staining. The association between these scores and survival will be estimated using Cox survival analysis.
