Research summary
This research involves examination of archived tumour specimens from liver cancer patients for the expression pattern and prognostic significance of various biomarkers and in particular the HER family members. We shall investigate the expression pattern and prognostic significance of all members of the EGFR family (EGFR, HER-2, HER-3, HER-4) and putative liver cancer stem cell markers (e.g. CD133, CD24, EpCAM), and a panel of our in-house novel monoclonal antibodies in fixed paraffin embedded tissues from around 50 liver cancer patients using immunohistochemistry. The intensity of staining for the HER family will be recorded as negative, weak, strong and whether it is membranous, cytoplasmic or nuclear staining. The association between these scores and survival will be estimated using Cox survival analysis.
