Research summary
This study ‘Help us to spot cancer early: An interview study’ is part of a research programme (SPOCC Programme, NIHR201070)) which aims to optimise patient and health professional decision-making in patients with symptoms of possible cancer and with pre-existing conditions.
We will use qualitative interviews in this study, ‘Help us to spot cancer early: An interview study’ to improve our understanding of the reasons why patients consult their GP or nurse about their symptoms, when they do so and their experiences of these consultations. We will also learn more about the ways in which GPs and nurses respond to patients and their symptoms.
This information will support better professional practice and care of patients with multi-morbidity and aims to improve the early diagnosis of cancer and survival rates in these patients. Findings from this interview study will inform the design of an intervention in a later work package in the research programme (NIHR201070).
