Research summary
This study is being carried out for the fulfilment of a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leicester. It has developed from the following:\n•\tThe lack of research into the coping styles of male family members of People with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS). \n•\tFindings in the literature that men are less likely to seek support when in need \n•\tDeveloping research into gender role conflict and gender role strain in light of our ever-changing society \nParticipants in the study, male family members of PwMS over the age of 18, will be asked to complete a survey investigating factors that may have an influence on levels of help-seeking and social support including Gender Role Conflict (GRC) and Gender Role Flexability (GRF). It is hypothesized that levels of GRC and GRF will have an effect on help-seeking behaviours in male family members of PwMS.\nThe survey is primarily an online survey hosted on SurveyMonkey but paper versions will also be available. Recruitment will be voluntary using health professionals to identify possible participants, social media platforms and MS organisations worldwide.\nResponses will be anonymous however participants can choose to leave a phone number or email address to be entered into a prize draw to win one of four £50/$50 Amazon vouchers. The data will be analysed electronically and results will be written up for publication in a relevant MS research journal.\n
