Research summary
Heart failure is a condition which means that the heart does not pump as well at the body requires it to. People who have heart failure are often prescribed many medicines to help the function of their heart. The research will investigate what people know about the purpose of the medicines (i.e how do they help the heart) and what are the overall benefits of taking them?
To assess patient medication knowledge a tool is required to be devised and validated. My research has shown that a tool does not currently exist that has been designed to specifically assess heart failure medication knowledge. Once the tool has been devised it will be given to heart failure patients to complete to allow the testing of the tool as part of the validation process. Patients with long term (chronic) heart failure will be included in the research. Patients will be recruited from a GP practice in Brighton and Hove, and identified from the GP heart failure register. The results of the completed tool will determine patient medication knowledge.
