Research summary
The Department of Twin Research (DTR) specialises in longitudinal studies within the TwinsUK cohort. The DTR operates under a Programme of Research, with several sub-studies currently being conducted within the department. Healthspan Connect is a new Programme of Research that would bring together the knowledge and expertise in longitudinal sample and data collection within DTR and across King’s College London, for a population of non-twin volunteers to support remote health and ageing research.
Healthspan Connect is a new longitudinal cohort dedicated to researching ageing and health resilience from adolescence onward. The research programme will focus on strategies to maximise the number of years individuals spend in good health by exploring the underlying mechanisms of health resilience. This will involve investigating the biological, environmental and social factors that contribute to ageing and how these can be influenced to promote health.
Healthspan Connect aims to:
1) Investigate the biological, environmental, and social factors that contribute to healthy ageing and health resilience.2) Ensure the inclusivity and representativeness of the research by actively involving underrepresented populations.
3) Provide participants with personalised risk information and study the drivers and barriers to behaviour change.
The Healthspan Connect Programme of Research will facilitate sub-studies to address specific research questions, in line with the above aims. These studies may be grant-funded or access requests from collaborators. Each sub-study will have its protocol outlining research objectives and a recruitment-specific sub-study Volunteer Information Sheet (VIS). Sub-studies will be conducted in-line with the Healthspan Connect protocol to collect specimens and data. This application includes the first sub-study for your consideration, PROSPECT-UK.
