Research summary
Low vision often results in impairment of daily activities, loss of independence, reduced physical functioning and quality of life. Vision rehabilitation can enable more independent functioning for individuals with low vision. Usually a patient will need more support with life skills such as navigating to a destination, reading, or enjoying any other favourite activity. The objective of the study is to investigate whether technology can lend a helping hand ?.
Standard care within the eye department for patients with low vision include referral to the low vision rehabilitation service. Assessment within the low vision service at present include advice, hints and tips on managing daily life. Advice on task lighting and contrasting colour, bump on stickers and writing frames. Following discussions in low vision clinics on optimising device technology for low vision rehabilitation ( use of Apps and built in technology on smart phones and tablets), we intend to assess HR-QoL before and after optimising device technology in low vision patients attending the low vision service at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH). HR-QoL will be measured using the EQ-5Dā5L questionnaire.
The EQ-5D-5L, developed by the European Quality of Life Group (EuroQol Group), is currently one of the most widely used questionnaires in HRQoL research.REC name
