Research summary
This study aims to establish the level of health literacy in cardiac patients in NHS Highlands, and to explore the links between health literacy, physical activity and cardiac rehabilitation attendance. Inadequate levels of health literacy have been shown to negatively impact on health outcomes. This study will allow us to identify how we can best support patients to be more active and increase cardiac rehabilitation uptake. All patients referred to the NHS Highland cardiac rehabilitation service between January 1st 2018 and December 31st 2018 are eligible for study 1. Patients referred between 1st May 2019 and 30th April 2020 are eligible for study 2. Eligible patients will receive a paper questionnaire through the post to complete in their own time. Participants in study 2 will also receive a follow-up questionnaire 6 months later.
