Research summary
Research Summary:
This study aims to improve our understanding of the impact of long-term health conditions on people’s everyday lives and to identify factors that can be prevented or managed by health care so that the quality of life for the population of West Midlands and beyond can be improved. The questionnaire will be sent to a random sample of registered adults aged 35 years and over up to 27,000, drawn from a clinical system search of 8 or more general practices in the West Midlands. Further patients may be contacted if response rates are lower than expected.
Summary of Results:
The aim of the Hill study was to examine health related inequality across the West Midlands. The study collected data, using a survey questionnaire from adults aged 35 and over, who were registered to 17 practices across the region. The results indicate that levels of health and function vary across the West Midlands. Taking work participation as an example, the range of employment rate across the region was 54.5% to 82.7%, absence (time off work) 2.2% to 12.9% and presenteeism (in work but with reduced productivity) 29.0% to 50.5%. Further work will identify factors that explain the variance in health outcomes.REC name
