Research summary
There are no tests currently licensed for the diagnosis of gonorrhoea and chlamydia infection in non-genital sites such as the rectum and throat despite the fact that many tests are used routinely for this purpose. This study will compare the result of 2 of the latest tests developed for diagnosing these infections. The findings of the study will help inform scientists, doctors and other healthcare professionals on the relative performance of these test when used 'off-license' for throat and rectal samples. This will help them to more accurately interpret the results that they get for the patients they test.
