Research summary
This is a pilot study to determine whether understanding diabetes status and management is better with use of HbA1c with FreeStyle Libre Pro than with HbA1c alone.
The study will be conducted at primary and secondary care NHS sites in England and will aim to recruit approximately 45 persons with type 2 diabetes on oral glucose-lowering medication, or, oral glucose-lowering medication and biphasic insulin.
Participants will have FreeStyle Libre Pro sensors applied by their health care professional (HCP), one on each arm, and will wear them for 14 days while going about their daily activities. At the end of the sensor wear period, participants will return to their HCP for a review visit, and to have the sensors removed and their data uploaded.
The HCP will then complete questionnaires about whether the availability of the LibreView reports would change the decisions they would make about the participants’ diabetes status and management as compared to making those decisions using HbA1c results alone.
