Research summary
In diabetes, it has been shown that self management is the main factor determining success in achieving and maintaining control over blood glucose levels. Research in this area has focused on clinical outcomes and largely ignored eliciting the value individuals with diabetes place on the self management aspect of their condition.
In a recent project, we explored the evaluation of self management in diabetes and developed a questionnaire that can be used to identify and value self-management in diabetes. The questionnaire has potential uses in both economic and service evaluation.
This project aims to formally assess the psychometric properties of the developed questionnaire (Health and Self-Management In Diabetes, HASMID questionnaire).
Two versions of the questionnaire will be evaluated (paper and online) by patients with diabetes (Type 1 DM or Type 2 DM). The psychometric properties of the HASMID questionnaire will be examined with particular reference to reliability, content validity and responsiveness.REC name
