Research summary
Testing the strength of a person's hand grip gives a good idea of the strength of the muscles. It is now known that hand grip strength is a good indicator of general health. However, hand grip strength is generally compared to body weight and we do not know if the measurements mean the same thing in people with higher body weight. It may be that in these people, rather than comparing hand grip strength to body weight, it is better to compare it to the amount of muscle a person has. To test this, we would like to measure hand grip strength, weight and the amount of muscle in people who have a higher body weight. We hope to take these measurements for around 200 people.
