  • Research summary

The research will consider the views, opinions and experiences of around 24-30 patients who have received an NHS Health Check within the previous month.

The purpose is to understand current patient experience in particular around motivation to change behaviour and lifestyle as a result of a health check, understand what motivates and supports any change and to explore options for helping patients change behaviour after they have received an NHS health check using online tools such as websites and apps.

It is of relevance and importance to patients and public because the health checks programme within Hampshire will be enhanced as a result of understanding how patients can be better supported after their health check, including support for lifestyle behaviour change such as stopping smoking, increasing physical activity, improving diet and reducing alcohol consumption.
Eligible patients will be selected from 3 GP practice databases: patients who have had a health check within the previous 4 weeks will be invited to participate in the groups. The groups will include a blend of those recorded as having a high cardiovascular risk score (25% of each group), low risk (25% of each group) and medium risk (50% of each group)
The focus groups will be held at local venues close to the GP practices involved.
Each focus group will last 90 minutes maximum. They will be held in the evenings between 6pm and 9pm (subject to location opening times etc)
