Tissue will be stored in the clinical laboratories at GOSH.

GOSH Sample Bank is a resource to enable us to retain any patient samples remaining after routine clinical testing (once generic consent has been obtained from the family/patient). We are in the process of rolling out this prospective consent, which will give all our children and young people the opportunity to be part of research at GOSH. Sample Bank will also facilitate the use of non-consented archival material, which can be released anonymously for use in research and also post-mortem samples which have historic consent for use.

Simple linked clinical data (such as would be accessible to the clinical laboratories at GOSH, e.g., diagnosis) would be provided without any identifiers. Researchers requiring richer clinical data can apply for linked data through the Digital Research Environment (DRE).

  • Research programme

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH), together with its academic partner UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH), are committed to carrying out pioneering research to find treatments and cures for some of the most complex illnesses, for the benefit of children here in the UK and worldwide. To help facilitate this, our vision for GOSH Sample Bank is to develop a unique international resource for tissue-based research on children’s health and disease. The Bank will support and promote high-quality research into health and disease in childhood, that will lead to a better understanding of disease, better diagnosis, and better treatments. It will also provide a governance mechanism for research project approval when using these unique tissue samples.
