Data collection arrangements
Fresh tissue sample collections held within the Grampian Biorepository(www.biorepository.nhsgrampian.org) include colorectal, lung, liver, orthopaedic and vascular samples. In addition the biorepository also collects surplus urine, plasma and serum samples, There is also a wide range of existing formalin fixed wax embedded tissues, stored within the Department of Pathology archive which come under the auspices of the Grampian Biorepository for research purposes
The Grampian Biorepository records community health index (CHI) number and gender from consented participants. The samples can be linked to clinical data from the patients medical records that are relevant to the disease process (gender, age, medical data relating to the disease state, pathology and diagnostic data). The data is stored within a secure database that requires an initial NHS Grampian access followed by a specific biorepository password. The consent form is stored with a lockable cabinet within a secure laboratoryResearch programme
A wide range of research (including cancer research, cardiovascular research, renal research, bone and joint research, liver research, asthma research, pharmacological and toxicology testing) will be conducted on biological samples provided by the Grampian Biorepository including basic molecular and cell biology research, drug discovery and development, translational research, pharmacological, development of new diagnostic tests, biomarker and risk stratification research. A wide range of current molecular and cellular biological investigative techniques will be performed including but not limited to gene sequencing, gene expression studies, proteomics, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, functional assays, physiological studies, pharmacological studies and imaging studies including fast field magnetic resonance imaging.
