Research summary
Golf is played by nearly 60 million people worldwide with nearly half of those players based in the United States of America. Golfers suffering from arthritis are likely to see an impact on their physical activity and may consider joint arthroplasty. However, many will have concerns regarding their ability and timing of returning to play golf. No study has prospectively assessed golfers return to play following joint arthroplasty.
This study will be used to address several prior questions. The primary aims will investigate the epidemiology of returning to golf following hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty. Secondary aims will determine predictors of returning to golf following each aforementioned arthroplasty with exploration of surgical factors. Finally, tertiary aims will use of a novel golf specific joint awareness questionnaire for each type of arthroplasty.
