Research summary
Patients with severe kidney disease are at high risk of bleeding but we do not know who is at greatest risk because standard tests are usually normal. Haemodialysis can reduce risk of bleeding so many patients are given dialysis through a temporary catheter in a leg vein before a procedure but may not be needed. We will look at new tests which measure more ‘life-like’ ways of clotting in patients with kidney disease to see if they can identify patients at high risk of bleeding. We will also look at how much haemodialysis is needed to reverse bleeding problems.
