Research summary
The study is designed to look at the relationship between oxygen delivery during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) & kidney injury after heart surgery. It uses a new piece of software housed within a data management system, that is linked to the heart lung machine (HLM). Using this software, the study will look into whether maintaining a well established, minimum amount of oxygen delivered during cardiopulmonary bypass (in conjuction with the traditional cardiac output, calculated using a patients body surface area) reduces the incidence of kidney injury seen postoperatively compared to the traditional method of body surface area calculated flow alone.
