Research summary
The development of chronic inflammatory diseases such as Crohn’s disease has a substantial genetic component. Genome-wide association studies have identified numerous genetic polymorphisms (markers) associated with disease susceptibility, although how exactly these polymorphisms increase a person’s chance of developing disease remain incompletely understood. In this study we aim to understand how these polymorphisms influence the function and biology of immune cells such as dendritic cells and T cells. This will enhance our understanding of the molecules and pathways that control immune cell function and how these are altered in chronic inflammatory diseases. Ultimately, has the potential to provide us with important new insights into potential biomarkers and targets for therapy.
