Research summary
APACHE score ratings are exceptionally important in predicting patient mortality and survival rates. However the current scoring systems (APACHE II or III) whilst focusing on biochemical and pathological data currently lack patient genomic data. When patients are admitted to the ICU the APACHE score serves as the most reasonable and robust means of predicting outcome. However, normal DNA sequence variation in the DNA of individual patients (either as single DNA base changes or deletions or duplications of DNA segments) may influence clinical outcomes and be associated with response to treatment.\n\nThis project aims to identify associations between genetic variants specifically involving immunity genes (i.e FCGR and DEFB genes) and patient outcomes.
