  • Research summary

This project intends to find how intergenerational trauma (IGT) impacts the experiences of therapy within Bangladeshi patients. In doing so, we want to explore the impact of IGT has had on second and third generation British Bangladeshis' experiences of therapy. Participants will be asked about how their experience of accessing therapy has been for someone from the Bangladeshi community, how talking about their experiences in therapy might have helped to make sense of adverse stories they have heard from earlier generations, and how these earlier generations might have impacted their perception of family, relationships and belonging. The study will also facilitate discussions about the impacts of cultural traumas in therapy and how these experiences could be addressed in future. In doing so, the study aims to find how the unmet needs of the Bangladeshi community can be addressed to help reduce further transmission of trauma.
