Research summary
The goal of this project is to source breast and ovarian cancer tissue to develop cancer organoids and tissue explants so that we can study the effects of stress hormones and oxidative stress on cancer immune biology. To do this we plan to develop a 3 dimensional organoid cell culture model of human cancer cells and grow tumour tissue on sponges for purposes of examining how the organoid and tissue explants responds to stress hormones such as cortisol, norepinephrine and oxidative stress. The study has been designed to use anonymised, surplus surgical tumour tissue and an extra blood taken at the same time it is taken routinely as part of a clinical procedure to minimise the impact to the patients.
