Data collection arrangements
Samples will be stored in secure premises at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Where needed samples may subsequently be used for scientific experiments that might be conducted in laboratories in Oxford, or elsewhere, with researchers collaborating with the Gastroenterology team in Oxford.
Research programme
The samples and data collected in this biobank will support research into a number of conditions that relate to the liver and gastrointestinal tract, including colon cancer, coeliac disease, and hepatitis, among others. The work may be lead to a better understanding of the causes of illness, and may lead to new tests for disease, and to better treatment. The biobank samples will also be used to support collaboration with researchers in the UK and around the world, including companies that are developing treatments and tests for Gastrointestinal disease.
