Research summary
Falls are commonly reported by people with Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy (SBMA) but to date there has been little formal investigation of this problem. Frequent falling increases the risk of injury and reduces mobility due to avoidance of activities perceived to increase the threat of falls.
In order to successfully manage the problem of falls there needs to be greater understanding of the conditions when people fall. This study aims to survey people with SBMA to ascertain how often they fall, nearly fall and the circumstances that may have contributed to the fall.
