Research summary
Feasibility study to assess changes in forefoot pressure distribution following replacement of the first MTP joint with silastic hinge. Ten patients will be analysed pre-operatively using pedobarograph looking at peak pressures and contact duration, both standing and walking. This will be repeated for both feet post-operatively at three months and six months. Patients will also be required to complete PROMs questionnaires including MOX-FQ, EQ5D and VAS.
Comparisons will be made between the ‘normal’ and arthritic foot, both pre and post-operatively, looking for changes in the pressure distribution of the forefoot, as well as correlation of pressure with metatarsalgia and PROMs data.
Following this pilot project, the aim is to compare patients undergoing other first MTPJ surgery using the pedobarograph to produce statistically significant data on patient outcomes.REC name
