Research summary
This research will hopefully give an understanding of how high risk the diabetic population are in getting fungal infection within the lower limbs. This research will include patients who are diabetic and those who are non-diabetic. There is little research out there but the research that is states that the diabetic population are at a higher risk of fungal infection due to the compromise in their immune system but no known research has been done on the non-diabetic population. The research will be carried out in a GP’s surgery located in Port Talbot where a questionnaire will be available for patients to complete. Ideally 40 of each population will be needed. Along with the questionnaire there will be a foot hygiene leaflet available. There will be no patient interaction, no personal details and the participants will remain anonymous. Once the research is completed the questionnaires will be collected from the surgery where they will be kept in a sealed box locked away in a safe and counted. The results will be broken down into categories of the questions asked and results placed on a bar graph to hopefully show comparison between populations.
