Research summary
There has been a marked increase in recent years of cancer treatments utilising precision cancer medicine, where specific treatments are tailored to an individual patient based on the unique characteristics of the patient and their cancer. This has led to an increasing complexity around decision-making for such treatments, resulting in often complex trade-offs between risks and benefits of these precision cancer medicine therapies. The aim of these focus groups are to ask patients previously diagnosed with cancer about their perspectives on precision cancer medicine and the elements they feel are important if the specialty is to meet its promise and develop more widespread approval and appeal for patients. Patients will be asked about the factors they feel are strengths of precision cancer medicine and those they may perceive as barriers to potential involvement. This will be done via 3 semi-structured focus groups in order to allow patients to openly express independent thoughts within an informal setting.
