Research summary
This is research study looking at how effective a smartphone attached thermal imaging camera (FLIR-ONE; pictured above) is at assessing the extent of thermal burn injuries versus the gold-standard Moor laser Doppler imager that we routinely use at the St. Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. Laser Doppler imagers cost tens of thousands of pounds to purchase and are expensive for many treatment centres to purchase. At a price of £189 the FLIR-ONE camera could be a cheaper alternative; which if proven to be an effective clinical tool could be used more extensively within the NHS for assessing the extent of burn injuries.
