  • Research summary

This student project is part of a wider programme of research looking at flare-ups or exacerbations in knee osteoarthritis. We are interested in understanding what they are, how long they last, things that may trigger them, any potential warning signs and what people do about them. Our hope is that this will begin to identify ways in which these can be more effectively managed.

The purpose of the study is to support the future prevention, early recognition, and effective management of exacerbations as part of overall OA management.

    RECRUITMENT
Recruitment will be via one of two methods.
    1. Via 2 general practices. A member of the Clinical Research Network will search 2 general practice databases for a Read-coded consultation in the past 2 years of knee pain/osteoarthritis or arthralgia. Identified eligible participants will be sent letters of invite from their GP via Docmail after GP list screening for vulnerable groups.
    2. Via posters. Posters will be put up in pharmacies, libraries and GP practices in areas near the 2 GP practices. Patients will be asked to contact the Centre if they are interested in taking part in the study.
