Research summary
The overall Fit4HeartOp research study is going to develop and test ways of preparing patients for heart operations by improving their physical health, their nutrition and helping patients to feel mentally prepared – making improvements like this is called prehabilitation, or prehab.
Over 28,000 people have heart operations every year in the UK. Many of these people are unfit, so they recover more slowly and may have a worse quality of life. We want to determine whether Prehab can improve quality of life and keep people out of hospital after their operation.
In this qualitative study we want to talk to patients and ask their opinions about different ways to help patients to improve their health before having heart surgery such as exercise plans, healthy eating and ways of giving emotional support. These new ideas will eventually be tested in a clinical trial to see if they work.We want to interview patients that are waiting for heart surgery as it is important to get feedback from the people that the research is designed to help.
The information that we get from the interviews will help us to develop the prehab plan for the clinical trial.REC name
